Our Mission
To provide learning assistance services that help students fulfill their goals for an achieving a good knowledge. Therefore to provide learning support to the community this enables young students, educators to have an opportunity to enlighten their knowledge. LRC collaborates with students, teachers, staff and administrators, to conduct specific programs that maximize learning success for each student who seeks assistance.
Also the main goals of the LRC are to support the mission of the school and to enhance the teaching and learning process. LRC staff members are available to help students and teachers find the information and resources they need for course assignments, research and leisure reading and increase student’s ability to become independent learners. It also conducts special trainings and seminars for teachers and students which incorporate independent activities and introduce study skills.
The second focus of the LRC mission is to help the AKS students become more effective students overall. This is accomplishing through seminars and workshops developed and presented by academic specialists and LRC staffs.
The third focus of the mission is to provide access to educational support and electronic literacy training for AKS students and community.
The fourth focus of the LRC mission is to provide assistance for students in areas related to test writing, learning styles and other pedagogical concerns. This aspect of our mission is accomplished through classroom presentations, growing out of partnerships between the LRC and various academic units throughout the school.

What do you know about our LRC?
LRC is located in the third floor of the Aga Khan School, room 301. The LRC is learning and teaching environment which includes library services, a media center, computer labs and DVD-theater. LRC services are free of charge and open to all enrolled students. The main goals of the LRC are to support the mission of the school and to enhance the teaching and learning process. LRC staff members are available to help students and teachers find the information and resources they need for course assignments, research and leisure reading and increase student’s ability to become independent learners. It also conducts special trainings and seminars for teachers and students which incorporate independent activities and introduce study skills.
In the LRC you’ll find about 12500 items, such as books, video and audio cassettes, DVD-discs, CD-ROMs, maps, etc. We use Circulation Desk where all materials are circulated. LRC uses Spectrum which is both an automated circulation system and a searching tool. By using Spectrum searching features like visual searching and advanced searching by key words, title, author and subject. Spectrum replaces the more traditional card index. With the help of it, the LRC manager can easily and quickly circulates materials; keep an accurate order of all items. All users and materials have been given special unique barcodes. Each user has his own ID-card, and he can take any materials by using it. Also there is special equipment called “Anti-thief” against the people who are able to take a book out without any permission.
On the first floor you can see the LRC computers. They all have access to the internet, which significantly helps the LRC users in their research work. All computers in the LRC are networked, so searching through Spectrum is accessible to all users. Moreover LRC has another computer lab in the third floor in room 304 which has 25 computers. All computers have access to the internet. The Computer lab is designed to strengthen the internet skills and our computer lab is available for word processing, instructional software use, and Internet research.
The LRC collection includes a concise group of textbooks and basic references to support the school curricula a small group of current periodicals and assorted software and hands on learning tools. Further - Mini Reading Hall where pupils can entertain by reading magazines, newspapers or journals sitting on comfortable and cozy arm-chairs. Also we have “methodological” room which stores a wide range of books in which teachers find new material for their lessons. On shelves you will find a collection of text-books. On each subject of the school curriculum you will find several books of different authors. This enables the teachers to compare text-books and add some extra material to their teaching program. And in our DVD-theater teachers often reserve to conduct object-lessons, and students come during the classes to watch a film.
The LRC has both educational and feature films. Ever y Friday we organizes film-showings after the lessons. The second floor is designed as Kyrgyz traditional house- booz-ui. And the top is similar to Tunduck. There are Kyrgyz national ornaments round the wall. All the books are booked in the second floor, and classified according to the Dewey Decimal System. The DDS is a system for cataloguing materials in print and non-print formats that’s universally used. Each item is given a special code due to its subject. Most items have an added sub-category to make them easier to find. Both the category and the sub-category are printed on a spine label that’s placed on the item. Pupils can sit there and do their homework or read books. Also they come there do research works during the lessons or after. Self –service black-and-white photocopying, printing and scanning are available.
It is pleasure to say that our LRC is open for community on Saturdays. As we know LRC services around 1400-1500 people per week.

Hi! My name is Zhiide. I’m a manager of the Aga Khan School LRC! I’m 24 years old. I was born in Osh/Kyrgyzstan in 1987. As a manager of LRC I started work from the 1st of September 2011. I’ve two high educations: they are English language and Manager of Organization. And also I work as an English teacher too. I like my job, because it’s very interesting to work with children and community. We have all conditions to enlarge our knowledge. It gives me a pleasure to help our visitors, especially when they need it. I’m glad to see you, bye-bye!
